PSALMS OF DEGREES (120 - 134)

The number of the psalms of degrees are fifteen and the meaning of degrees is steps ascending only. Maaloot is a noun from the word alah which means ascending (going up). In the temple before entering the holy place there is fifteen steps. On the day of the Atonement the high priest carries the blood into the holy of holies and as he ascend the fifteen steps the priests will start to sing the psalms of degrees. When he ascends the first step they will sing psalm 120, and when he ascends the second they will sing psalm 121. The high priest will continue ascending and the priest will continue singing until they will sing the fifteen psalms of degrees.
 
                Psalm  120 - SALVATION

 

1In my distress I cried unto the LORD, and he heard me.

 2Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue.

 3What shall be given unto thee? or what shall be done unto thee, thou false tongue?

 4Sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals of juniper.

 5Woe is me, that I sojourn in Mesech, that I dwell in the tents of Kedar!

 6My soul hath long dwelt with him that hateth peace.

 7I am for peace: but when I speak, they are for war.

In my distress I cried unto the Lord. I am distressed because of my lying lips and my deceitful tongue. The Lord's conviction of sin was like Sharp arrows of the mighty. These arrows were with coals of juniper. When the wood of the juniper tree is set on fire it is impossible to quench it. This tells us that these were sharp fiery arrows.  "Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked." Eph. 6:16 

Woe is me, that I sojourn in Mesech, that I dwell in the tents of Kedar! Woe is me, I sojourn in Mesech, that is to say I went astray in my ways in living in the tent of Kedar. Kedar and Cedron are from the same root word which means dark and death. In another words I was dead in trespass and sin. I was dwelling with the one that hate peace that is the devil. Lord I want to repent and now I want peace with God.

I cried unto the LORD, and he heard me. I cried to Him, I prayed to Him, I called upon His name and He heard me and delivered my soul from perishing in the burning fire of hell.   

 
 
Psalm  121- PROVEDENCE

 1I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.

 2My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.

 3He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.

 4Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.

 5The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand.

 6The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.

 7The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.

 8The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth. The Lord will help, and keep, and preserve the believer. My help cometh from the LORD, the Lord will come to help me and He himself will be my help. The word translated from in Hebrew is me-aam. The word me is from and the word aam is with. So that will be my help is from the Lord and with the Lord. The Lord Himself will come down to this earth to redeem me as in Isaiah "Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel." Isaiah 7:14  
The Lord that keeps us do not slumber nor sleep, and does not allow our feet to slip(to be moved). He is the God that made the heaven and the earth and He will care for us and He will preserve us from all evil body  and soul and for evermore.
 
 

Psalm  122- FELLOWSHIP

 1I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.

 2Our feet shall stand within thy gates, O Jerusalem.

 3Jerusalem is builded as a city that is compact together:

 4Whither the tribes go up, the tribes of the LORD, unto the testimony of Israel, to give thanks unto the name of the LORD.

 5For there are set thrones of judgment, the thrones of the house of David.

 6Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.

 7Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces.

 8For my brethren and companions' sakes, I will now say, Peace be within thee.

 9Because of the house of the LORD our God I will seek thy good.
King David is saying I am glad to go to the house of the Lord. The purpose of going to the house of the Lord is for fellowship with God and for  fellowship with other believers. The number of believers in this church age was and is a small number. The people believing in Jerusalem were from all the parts of the world visiting Jerusalem. After 70 A.D. for some time There was no believers in Jerusalem. Even now the number of the born again Christians is very small. So Pray for the peace of Jerusalem, Pray that people will accept the Lord Jesus Christ as their saviours.
David was in Jerusalem and he said our feet shall stand within thy gates, O Jerusalem. God gave him to write this verse which will happen in the future in the millennium. In the millennium I will be within the gates of Jerusalem. For there are set thrones of judgment, the thrones of the house of David. If David was the king and he is on the throne. Why was he seeing thrones of judgment? To whom are these thrones?  "And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel."  Matthew 19:28 This will happen in the millennium
  
I will be also in the compact Jerusalem, that is the new Jerusalem on the new earth in the new heaven.
