WHERE
IS CALVARY
IN THE SCRIPTURE
When all the books of history are abolished, and when all
the traditions vanish and perish forever, there will be one
book left. That book is the Bible; Jesus said: "Heaven
and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away".
Matt. 24:35
So let us first study where Calvary is from the scripture's
point of view. When we start studying any subject we begin
with the O.T. which is full of types.
TYPES FROM SACRIFICE
We will take our first Verse from Lev. 1:11, "And he
shall kill it on the side of the altar northward before the
Lord, and the priests, Aaron's sons, shall sprinkle his blood
round about the altar." Also in Lev. 4:24. When a ruler
ignorantly sins, "And he shall lay his hand upon the
head of the goat, and kill it in the place where they kill
the burnt offering before the Lord: it is a sin offering".
Although there are not so many verses that deal with this
fact, one verse in the perfect Eternal Word Of God is enough.
The rest of the verses just mention, "Where they kill
the burnt offering". That is stated clearly in Leviticus
to be towards the North. "... and shall kill it on the
side of the altar northward". Lev. 1:11.
The writer of Hebrews mentions that Jesus suffered outside
the gate: "We have an altar, whereof they have no right
to eat which serve the tabernacle. For the bodies of those
beasts, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high
priest for sin, are burned without the camp. Wherefore Jesus
also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood,
suffered without the gate". Hebrew 13:10-12.

The hill of Calvary
north of the city
In Leviticus God commanded the priests to kill
all the offerings north of the altar, and Hebrews tells us
that Jesus Christ "... suffered without the gate"
Heb. 13:12. So Jesus Christ shed his blood and suffered outside
the gate north of the city. Today, this place is known as
Gordon's Calvary.
TYPES FROM THE TEMPLE
There are two tables in the Holy place. On the
table towards the south stands the candlestick, while the
shewbread is placed on the Table on the north side. No, wonder
the shewbread is placed on the North, for it is the symbol
of the broken body of Jesus Christ
